Different people have different interpretations of what success means to them. Inorder to achieve success one must adjust to every situation with ease. Success is the process of doing a task and receiving a positive result or it is simply achieving one’s own personal goals. One of the famous successful inventors Thomas Edison was considered stupid in his early years, but turned out to be the one that invented light bulbs. Everywhere we go we hear stories of successful people; when we are at school the teachers relates our scope with the successful people in the world which gives us a higher motivation to study and become successful just like them. The famous quote stated by Robert Collier “Success is the small efforts repeated day in and day out.” Does success mean that one is improving one self? There are different kinds of success; power, materialistic and contributor.
With great power comes great responsibiility. Well, this type of success gains a lot of control, basically someone who wants to contrl and the person to be chose as a leader. These kinds of people tend to over rule their peers. These are the kind of people that want to be at the top of the pyramid, they care about nothing but their position not even money. It is very easy to spot them as power driven individuals have dynamic and strong personalities. One of the many greatest example “Adolf Hitler” he was an absolut power and ruthless in attaining it. His ultimate power was to achieve a lot of power so that he could transfor Germany into comprising solely of what he saw as a superior “Aryan Race”. The way he looked at success forced him to use underhanded means to attack absolute power. In the year 1934 he became the leader of Germany thus he achieved the power success.
People that are materialistic are usually the one that are media driven. They are just materialistic because the media openly publicizes materialism. Materialistic people are usually brainwashed by the media that happiness is only achieved by excessive luxuries and statuses. One of the example of a materialistic person is Jim Carrey, a famous comedian. He was the fourth kid of the family, who dropped out of school at an early age. He wanted to give his family a better home where they could live peacefully without carrying any burden. But Jim here does not know that happiness cannot be bought by money. Maybe a house can be purchased but it does not become a house unless the people living in it are happy.
The other kind of success is being a contributor. These kind of people are the ones that want to create a better world for the people at the present and that of the future. They want to step in to the world to make a difference. For these people helping one another is on a daily basis and they receive nothing in return. The best example is Mahatma Gandhi, he led nationwide campaigns for easying poverty, expanding the women’s rights and buliding the religious and ethenic amity. Gandhi strove to practice non-violence and truth in all situations and advocated that the others do the same. Gandhi went to the jail, despite of what the Britishers had done Gandhi got India indepence at a non-violence state.
Evidently, the way people percieve success is influential in the decission that they make. Whatever the decission maybe appropriate or even socially, the thing that matters is the strive to achieve that success. Take Adolf Hitler as an example maybe in people’s eyes he was a scary murderer but in his point of view he was just achieving something that is called success. When it is a person’s aim to buy a BMW S-Class they work so hard for it that they will eventually get it as hard work pays off and to them that is success; Achieving something that you have aimed for a long period of time. And when you attain that success the happiness that you get is mind-blowing, having that feeling in you “that yes I have achieved success with the help of no one” is amazing. I would like to end this essay with a quote said by Jack Charlton, British football manager.
“ Nothing comes easy. Nothing is given to you. Whatever you do, you've got to work for it and earn it. Whatever reward you get you've go to know that you've had your input into that success. There's no substitute for hard work. And if you want to be well known or well liked, you have to put yourself out for people”.
I was really hoping for someone to use the quote "With great power comes great responsibility." used as a topic sentence by one of you guys, and was so happy to see you did. The reason why is because the line has a clear topic and focus, and has immense potential to steer an excellent paragraph. The supporting sentences in your paragraph is well supported with evidence of research, but "comes great responsibility" as a focus did not come through. This would have been an excellent paragraph if it explored various powerful leaders who did/did not rise up to their responsibilities.
ReplyDeleteThe thesis statement is good, and other supporting paragraphs face the same issue - supporting the topic but not the focus. Overall still a good essay.
